Got a new camera today, a Sony Cybershot DSC-H9 to replace my Sony Cybershot DSC-H5. I've been waiting for ages for it to reach the UK and it finally got here the last week of April. Naturally just had to play with it straight away and so the image on the tilting screen is of me playing around with the remote control. :o) The screen rotates 180 degrees which is superb for viewing from various angles above and below. For owners of the DSC-H5 (DSC-1, DSC-2), the standard lens barrel from the DSC-H5 does not fit the DSC-H9. So unless you can buy a third party one (if there is one) the zoom lens and wide angle lens will not fit this camera. :o( The lens housing on both cameras looks the same diameter but they have used a different thread so the H5 lens barrel will not screw onto the H9. Wonder why they had to change that? Batteries are different to but the memory card fits the H9 with no problems. The flash still bounces of the lens hood if it is attached causing a slight shadow at the bottom of the photo. At least I can still use my existing slave flash. They have moved the AF assist light slightly lower on the H9, this is partially blocked by the flower lens hood on the H9 if it is attached (but I guess you would not be using both at the same time). On the plus size, the H9 is dramatically lighter than the H5. Amazes me how they have bolted more stuff inside it and it comes out lighter. Having said that the DSC-H9 has one battery so saves a lot of weight there. Looks quite a beast though. The remote control works from the front so you can just take numerous photos by keep pressing the shutter button and it works from behind to. So with the remote you can zoom in and out, access photos, start a slide show (with music) and jump into the menu system. Had a go with the night vision and in complete darkness you can see everything. Not sure what I would use it for just yet though, Specs of the DSC-H9 8.1 effective megapixels Carl-Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens (31mm - 465mm : 35mm equivalent) 15x optical zoom , 25.5x HD smart zoom , 30x digital zoom, up to 76x smart zoom NightShot for shooting in complete darkness using infra-red technology Super large tilting 3-inch (7.5cm) LCD screen , and electronic viewfinder Manual controls and advanced sports mode (high speed shutter (1/4000) and intelligent continuous auto-focus) Double Anti-blur technology combining Super SteadyShot and ISO 3200 high sensitivity (REI) Remote Control Face Detection automatically tracks and focuses on faces in the picture 1cm macro for ultra close-up shooting BIONZ processor for improved picture quality and high speed operation DRO technology to automatically correct contrast and exposure In-camera retouching, including red-eye correction and trimming High Definition output for displaying still images on a HD TV HD slideshow with music for playback on camera LCD screen or a HD TV (16:9) MPEG Movie VX (VGA 30fps movie mode with audio) PictBridge for direct connection to printer without need for PC STAMINA battery life, up to 280 shots (CIPA standard with LCD screen on) Ergonomic body 31MB internal memory Awaken your third eye - when you look into existence with absolute undivided consciousness- then you are one The third eye (also known as the inner eye) is a mystical and esoteric concept in certain Eastern and Western spiritual traditions. It is also spoken of as the gate that leads within to inner realms and spaces of higher consciousness. In New Age spirituality, the third eye may alternately symbolize a state of enlightenment or the evocation of mental images having deeply-personal spiritual or psychological significance. The third eye is often associated with visions, clairvoyance, precognition, and out-of-body experiences, and people who have allegedly developed the capacity to use their third eyes are sometimes known as seers.
